The 2025 Cycling Season will remain in the memory of cycling fans as one of the most spectacular in recent years. From the spring classics to the World Championships in Kigali, the peloton saw one name shine above all others — and it could be none other than Tadej Pogačar. The Slovenian not only confirmed his reign at the Tour de France, but extended his dominance across almost the entire calendar. You could count on one hand the races he entered and didn’t win.

The King of the Classics
Tadej began the year at an astronomical level, dominating the toughest classics. He won Strade Bianche, Tour of Flanders, La Flèche Wallonne, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, a four-of-a-kind that placed him on another level. He was also a key figure in Milan–San Remo, Paris–Roubaix, and the Amstel Gold Race, where he remained consistently competitive — always on or near the podium. His versatility, capable of triumphing on both the Flemish walls and the Ardennes climbs, confirmed him as the most complete rider of the modern era. In October, he closed his classics campaign in style by winning Il Lombardia for the fifth consecutive time, equaling Fausto Coppi’s historic record. And to cap it all off, he successfully defended his World Road Race Champion title — sealing a year in which no one could dethrone him.
Giro, Tour, and Vuelta: Three Weeks of Pure Epic
In the Grand Tours, the spectacle never stopped. The Giro d’Italia saw Britain’s Simon Yates finally claim the maglia rosa after several failed attempts. The race was marked by the boldness of young Mexican Isaac Del Toro, who won Stage 17 and bravely defended the overall lead before losing it in the final days to the consistency of Yates and the chaotic tactics of a UAE Team missing its leader. The Giro offered unforgettable images of resilience — brutal Alpine stages and an overall average speed above 41 km/h, proof of the race’s incredible intensity.
The Tour de France 2025 once again captured the world’s attention. From the opening stage — won in a sprint by Jasper Philipsen — tension was constant among the favorites: Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, and Primož Roglič. Windy stages and selective time trials shaped the outcome of a race that, once again, went to the Slovenian. His balance between offensive aggression and tactical control was unmatched. In the mountains, he knew exactly when to attack and when to let his strong UAE Team control the pace, despite fierce challenges from Vingegaard. The result: another yellow jersey and the confirmation that his Tour dominance remains unshaken.
The Vuelta a España closed the Grand Tour calendar with a mix of youth and experience. British rider Tom Pidcock impressed with a consistent performance that earned him a podium finish, proving his evolution into a future all-around contender. The race was grueling, especially in the third week, with constant changes of leadership — but in the end, Vingegaard took the overall victory, redeeming himself after his Tour defeat and earning his first Vuelta title.

The Kigali World Championships and the Globalization of Cycling
The 2025 UCI Road World Championships, held for the first time in Africa, took place in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 21–28. The event symbolized cycling’s growing global reach and was a resounding organizational success for the host nation. In the men’s road race, Pogačar retained his rainbow jersey with a commanding ride on the demanding course, while the time trial showcased Remco Evenepoel, who was so dominant he even caught Pogačar on the road. In the women’s events, Switzerland’s Marlen Reusser won the individual time trial, and Canada’s Magdeleine Vallieres stunned the world by taking the road race with a bold late attack.
Women’s Cycling: A Season on the Rise
The 2025 women’s cycling season reached new athletic and media heights. The Tour de France Femmes, starting in Rotterdam and finishing atop the legendary Alpe d’Huez, delivered a thrilling duel between Demi Vollering and Kasia Niewiadoma. Vollering, dominant in the mountains and unstoppable in the time trial, claimed her second consecutive yellow jersey, reaffirming Dutch supremacy in the race. Meanwhile, at the Kigali World Championships, Marlen Reusser was crowned time trial world champion, and the young Magdeleine Vallieres emerged as the sport’s new star with her epic road race victory. Both proved that women’s cycling has reached a level of competitiveness and drama equal to the men’s, securing a bright future for the discipline.
